Bad Breath

Bad breath is called halitosis in dentistry. No matter how well-groomed you are, bad breath is a serious problem that could push the people away from you. The bad breath affects both the private and social lives negatively.

 

THE REASONS OF THE BAD BREATH ARE CATEGORIZED UNDER 2 GROUPS:

 

90% of the bad breath arise from the reasons inside the mouth.

 

The food residues build up among the teeth, on the tongue, and on gingiva if the oral care is not regularly done, which eventually ends up with bad breath.

Once smelly foods such as onion or garlic are eaten, their smell does not die out until the body eliminates these foods.

It is not possible to reach and totally clean the deep periodontal pockets, which are caused by a gingival disease. These pockets cause bad breath.

Decayed teeth, bulgy dental fillings and dental fillings that have no contact with the adjacent teeth, abnormal teeth contacts and loss of tooth morphology cause  food build-up and result in bad breath.

Incompatible and misused denture prosthesis cause bad breath.

Tumors inside the mouth may cause bad breath.

Since the bad breath is very irritating in social life, it should not be ignored. Because you can get rid of this problem with some small intervention  .

IN ORDER TO AVOID BAD BREATH;

 

The gingival diseases and the decayed teeth inside the mouth should be treated.

The mouth and dental health should be cared, the teeth shall be brushed at least twice a day with a fluoride-containing toothpaste, and dental floss should be used at least once a day. The tongue should also be brushed during tooth brushing.

The care of the prosthesis in use shall be done attentively.

In case you still complain about bad breath even after the interventions done to your mouth and teeth, the other possible reasons shall also be investigated.

THE REASONS OF THE BAD BREATH RESULT FROM THE EXTRA ORAL ENVIRONMENT:

 

The infections that originate from sinus, bronchus, and lungs lead to bad breath.

An acetone-like smell occurs in the mouth in case of diabetes.

The liver and renal failure cause bad breath.

Moreover, it is stated that metabolic disorders can lead to bad breath.

Especially in children, bad breath related to intestinal parasites may occur early in the morning.

People who are on a diet and who fast may suffer from bad breath due to irregular eating habits.
